BBE gives Santa a helping hand

Sometimes, even Santa Claus needs a hand delivering gifts at Christmas.

Wilbert Menacho of McKay Range Development Corporation, with the help of the local RCMP, had purchased 16 full sets of hockey equipment for children in Tulita, NWT. However, the equipment was in Invermere, B.C., which is quite a long way from Tulita, located near Norman Wells and only accessible by plane or winter road.

So, when Wilbert called up Stu Russell, VP of Business Development at BBE, Stu saw a chance for BBE to lend a hand to get the equipment to the kids in time for Christmas. BBE offered to transport the equipment from Invermere to Yellowknife, at no cost to Wilbert or the McKay Range Development Corporation.

“We were quite happy to help,” said Stu. “BBE has the ability to get most anything from anywhere, to the north, and that’s what Wilbert and the kids needed.”

Once BBE got the hockey bags to Yellowknife, they were transferred to Tim Noble of North-Wright Airways. Tim put them on a nine-passenger Caravan for the flight to Tulita. “We thought that since it’s Christmas, and it’s for the kids, we would do this at no cost,” said Tim.

The hockey equipment will be distributed to kids in Tulita, where it will be put to good use keeping kids busy and active. “We’re really happy to give back to the community and help out as much as we can. It’s good to get the kids involved in sports, it keeps them out of mischief,” said Wilbert. “Who knows, they might be in the NHL someday.”

Wilbert says he’s thrilled with the help he received from BBE and North-Wright. “We’re really happy that BBE got the equipment to us. It took everybody’s help to make it happen.”
